It's been four years since the last Summer Olympics, so naturally, I'd forgotten how annoying it can be watching the events on television. For the past two nights, between about 8 and 9:30 p.m., what I saw was about 70 minutes of commercial messages broken up by 20 minutes of... beach volleyball (?!) and a little synchronized high diving (?!).
I couldn't take it anymore. Couldn't handle that insipid Oreos commercial with those too-cute little moppets anymore. I went to bed and curled up with a grim Dickens novel of poverty and desperation in the smoke-darkened streets of London.
Pure misery, with no commercial interruption.

You mean the smoke-blanketed streets of Beijing weren't dark enough for you?
I think Volleyball and Swimming are the only sports they are playing this time around... at least, that's all that's ever on when I hurriedly skip through whichever channel the Olympics is on...

I could care less about the Summer Olympics..it's not worth my time..i would rather a good Jack Finney novel such as "Time And Again"..a great read.
I agree its way too commercialized and the commercials are often ridiculous. When the worldwide sponsors just dont have the disposable revenues we must live with what is left for advertisers. I would think that with technolgy, they could allow individualized programming for those who do want to watch. This time, at least, they have numerous channels which often have something I would like to watch. Now that swimming is coming to a close, I dont think the ratings will be as high as thay have been. If you are following the swimmers, I think we all must admit, they are amazing and fast. Go USA!
