Today's gripe

It's 23 degrees out, it's snowing, the wind is howling. I'm walking to the bank and the mailbox, and the icy chill is penetrating my flannel-lined jeans and my hooded overcoat. But then there's this guy standing on the sidewalk wearing nothing more (above the waist) than a T-shirt.

I can't figure this out. It's not unusual; you see people all the time dressed like this, and you know it's not because they can't afford a coat. Is it the blubber on them that keeps them warm? Or are they just plain stupid?

Fat people don't get cold as easily. Yes, I said fat people. I am one. No use trying to sugarcoat it. But hey, I'm fat and happy....and warm! Happy New Year!

Cold as ice, actually.
For some reason, this reminds me of one of my favorite descriptive expressions, uttered by an old dude while we were out cutting wood one frigid January morning. How cold was it?
"Cold as a whore's heart," the old man muttered.

My guess is attention seeking behavior which apparently worked. HNY and Peace.

I always like the phrase "Cold as the balls on a brass monkey." I've never seen a brass monkey, but one has to imagine that in this kind of weather, his "nether region" would be very frosty. Also, I agree with anonymous. As a longtime fat person, I must say that I don't get very cold, in general, but I suffer greatly when the temps get into the 90s. With my New Year's resolution, however, I should soon be model-thin. I'll report back to you on the effects of cold weather on skinny people. Based on my past dieting efforts, you should expect that report, um, probably never. Cheers and Happy New Year to all.

Hey Brant, you ought to join the at work Weight Watchers group. It really works, the group (about 25of us)has lost more than 370 lbs in 16 weeks. Personally, I have lost nearly 25lbs. And a couple more down here in advertising have lost 35 and 40+. Besides we would enjoy have a few men in the group.
As foe this post it's true when you are larger you don't feel the cold as much but also age has something to do with it.

Weight Watchers works even if you don't attend the meetings. I lost 30 pounds from mid-July to October following the Core Plan recipes and walking about 4 miles a day. I still haven't gained more then two pounds back, and I'm only walking an average of 3 days a week now. All you need is the time to walk -- 1 houir -- and the will power to eat smaller portions and forsake things like bread. Try it.
