After 37 years in the newspaper business, O-R Editor Park Burroughs may have a right to be grumpy. He answers questions and complaints from readers here daily, and often chimes in with gripes of his own, observations, book reviews and serialized stories.

Wasn't the hair helmet kinda necessary during the cold war? You know... like, how you could get under your desk to survive a nuclear bomb attack... But only if your skull were cushioned with a dense thicket of fiber and aquanet.
Of course, I am a sorta kinda young guy... I assume that any black and white photograph was taken "during the cold war"...
This photo is from 1974, yes, during the Cold War. These are newspaper carriers receiving some sort of award, the one maybe for wearing a helmet while delivering papers on his bike.
Love the "Elvis-like" sideburns on the young man in the middle.
That's not just any hair helmet. It's obviously an award-winning hair helmet, recognized as so by the Commonwealth.
